So recently I had a revelation about this video game and movie, respectively. I don’t know if this has been pointed out before, but I’m going to detail the uncanny similarities between these two stories. For those who don’t know, Professor Layton and The Azran Legacy is a video game in the Professor Layton series which was released in Japan on February 28, 2013, and in North America on February 28, 2014. Castle In The Sky is a Studio Ghibli film released in Japan on August 2, 1986, and released in the US on April 1, 1989. All comparisons are in the same order as the title comparison.
Azran VS Laputa
The Azran Civilization is an ancient race of people who harnessed the power of science to create advanced technology and powerful medicine. There are multiple known locations of this race around the world. Near the end of the story, an Azran site rises into the air, and is able to float freely.
The Laputian Civilization is an ancient nation who had enough technology and military might to have once ruled the whole world. The only known location is a floating castle-like island which floats around the Earth surrounded by a hurricane.
Aurora VS Sheeta
Aurora is a messenger and a sole sentient survivor of the Azran people. Later in the story, her powers are able to awaken the Azran Golems and rise the ancient ruins site into the sky and awaken the Golems. Aurora later uses her powers to stop the Golems and send the floating island crashing into the ground.
Sheeta is one of two surviving people of Laputain race. Muska, using her crystal, is able to awaken the Laputian Robots. Sheeta then uses the crystal’s power to stop the Robots, destroy half of Laputa, and send the remaining castle into the upper atmosphere.
Azran Golems VS Laputian Robots
The Golems are mechanical beings originally created by the Azran as servants, but later rebelled and were frozen onto ice to be called upon later to judge humanity. In the later story, they are seen flying out of the floating ruins and destroy everything in sight.
The Robots were created by the Laputians to protect the floating castle from enemies. They were awakened and controlled by Muska to take control of the world.
The designs of the Golems and robots are similar, especially in the head region.

These are just a few similarities between the two stories that I noticed. If there are any others that I missed, feel free to add them when you reblog. Thank You.
